The Western Zhou Dynasty
The Western Zhou Dynasty (in simplified Chinese 西周) was once a very prosperous and strong dynasty that many people expected it to be the long-lasting dynasty. However, it turned out that like the Xia Dynasty, a decline existed after hundreds of years of the rule of the Zhou people.

After the death of King Hong, King Chao became the leader. In a year, he led the army to fight against some enemies. During the returning trip, he died when he was traveling across a river. Therefore, King Mu succeeded to become the new King. However, he was not a very strong king and he did nothing to further develop the country. After his death, King Lai got the power. Sadly, he was a very bad king and he spent all the time and money to fight wars against different groups of people and he also loved traveling around and ignoring the governmental affairs. Therefore, the power of the Dynasty declined and the economy turned bad. People started to complain. However, Lai inserted spies in the population and whenever there were people complaining about the King, they would be caught and executed. This made people feel scared and they grouped themselves to fight against the King. Finally, King Lai escaped and after several years time, King Ching was chosen to be the new king.

King Ching was a good king. He tried to reform the government and imposed a lot of good policies to help people live better. Sadly, his successor, King Yau, was not a good king. He was not able to continue to do the good policies from Ching and he was killed later.

After King Yaus death, the two rival parties in the government separately chose a leader to be the new king. One of the kings, King Ping, decided to move to another place and established the Eastern Zhou Dynasty while the other king was killed several years later. This marked the end of the Western Zhou Dynasty and also the start of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.
